An Anatolian study on the current knowledge and attitudes of urology operating room staff on ionizing radiation

Abstract Background To evaluate current approaches to ionizing radiation by personnel working in urology operating room at all levels of health service Anatolia, Turkey. Methods A questionnaire was e-mailed including MDs different academic levels, between August and September 2020 The included demographic questions about radiation, exposure protection. Results Of the 173 (11.9%) respondents, 44.5% were doctors, 24.9% nurses, 20.8% radiology technicians, 9.8% other personnel. While most participants (73.4%) had some knowledge only 42.2% stated they received radiation-specific training. two commonly used personal protective equipments (PPEs) among respondents (79.8%) lead aprons thyroid protectors. Interestingly, both types PPE preferred those who not safety Conversely, besides protectors; gonadal protection, goggles gloves PPEs training ( p < 0.001). Radiology technicians exhibited highest compliance rate for dosimeter usage (100%), followed faculty members (37.5%), specialists (36.7%) nurses (27.9%), staff (17.6%) assistants (15%). differences statistically significant 0.001), no relationship found protection measures years experience, daily fluoroscopy or education level. Conclusions Despite advances medical science, our findings suggest that many hospital are still insensitive dangers fluoroscopy, which is great importance rooms.
